The Idea

This used to be an SEO tip that Google actually recommended. By listing across multiple directories like YellowPages, it provided a quality link back to your site – making your site appear more important than if it didn’t have those backlinks.

Google has since removed that recommendation (as usual when people abuse good things), but the principle still holds true as long as you:

  • Avoid spammy websites (many ads, low-quality etc.)
  • Use consistent contact information across listings
  • Use a consistent address across listings
  • Research and list on relevant or niche directories

  • Scope: Medium
  • Speed: Slow
  • Reach: City
